The curriculum involves 400 hours for student instructors to satisfy Utah state requirements. The course educates prospective cosmetology teachers to address the needs of students in the classroom and the clinic floor. Prospective teachers learn to utilize a system of forward-focused thinking and front-end coaching. By learning the methods of teaching cosmetology, the prospective teachers learn to engage students in the learning process and stimulate the discovery process with visuals, music, and/or hands-on activities.

*Graduates are prepared for an entry level instructor.

This course is taught in English. Textbooks and course materials are only offered in the English Language.

Course Hours: 400 clock hours

The student instructor course is divided into three designations: Observation Theory, Psychology and Methodology, and Student Teaching.

Distance Education Learning Experience: Students enrolled in the program with distance education will complete a portion of their education through online learning.

INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM COURSE OUTLINE

Your time in the Paul Mitchell The School Logan instructor program course will be divided into three designations:

  1. Observation Theory: this section focuses on learning by observing classroom and clinic classroom instruction.
  2. Psychology and Methodology: These classes focus on the theory of teaching, using Milady’s Master Educator textbook, including weekly tests.
  3. Student Teaching: You will learn to write lesson plans and do actual teaching from your lesson plans. There will be a practical teaching evaluation of your teaching skills.

The institution offers employment assistance to help graduates’ efforts  to secure education-related employment that includes, but is not limited to training in professionalism, resume’ development, job interview preparation and job search skills.

All final theory exams and final practical exams must be completed in the school facility, they cannot be completed through distance education.

INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM TESTING AND GRADING PROCEDURE

The following tests and grading procedures are used to assess student learning and mastery of course content in the 400-hour course:

  1. Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on each theory exam. Theory exams cover a review of Milady’s Master Educator Student Course Book. Depending on the length of the module, theory exams will occur weekly or bi-monthly, within the 10% of distance education hours. The theory exams will evaluate the student’s academic performance for each subject of the distance education curriculum.

A = 90 – 100%          B = 80 – 89%          C = 75 – 79%          Failing = Below 75%

  1. Distance education assessments: Students must complete a distance education written assessment and practical skill assessment. These are based on performance and must be completed on-campus each month. The distance education assessment will focus on the distance education subjects covered during that time period. Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on each distance education written assessment and each practical skill assessment. Only students enrolled in the distance education program are required to complete these assessments.

INSTRUCTOR INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS

The Instructor 400 clock hour course is provided through a sequential set of learning steps which ad-dress specific tasks necessary for State Board preparation, graduation and job entry level skills. Clinic equipment, implements and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative and productive career oriented activities. The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans that reflect the latest educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration, distance education, and student participation. Audio-visual aids, guest speakers, field trips, and other related learning methods are used in the course.

In order to enroll in the hybrid program of study, the student must have the following hardware, software, and network requirements:

  1. Apple iPad (Wi-Fi 32GB) // Samsung Galaxy Pro Tab 10.2 (Wif-Fi 32GB)
  2. High-Speed Internet minimum of 600 Kbps (a mere 0.6 Mbps) download speeds to make one-on-one  video calls on Zoom. The company’s website recommends a minimum 1 Mbps download speed for group  calls. Doing group video calls in 1080p resolution requires at least 2.5 Mbps upload and download speed
